Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born at Lynn located in Massachusetts. Her parents were Lithuanian Jewish Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. Her father's death as a Carnival barker as a little girl, she had to help keep the family going by working as a maid and server. Ruth was a student at the school located in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. She quit the institution she was in after only two years in pursuit of a career as an actor. Her chosen path proved to be filled with challenges: In New York, she obtained the opportunity to pose as stills for a magazine about crime, but theatrical work eluded her. Then, she worked as a hat check girl at the nightclub before calling her quits and relocating to Boston. It was there that she was able to earn a living as an usherette by during the day and then at night performed with the New England Repertory Company. It was her first job as an actor. She has also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
